Building a Custom Fit Combat Legal Spangenhelm (15:00)
This class is scheduled daily to work with those who would like to build a helm.
Join HRM Hrogn for an hour every afternoon of the full event and make an SCA Combat Legal Spangenhelm.
Spangens are a type of helmet that have a frame with panels inset into them. They have been used by many cultures over many centuries all over Europe and Asia. They are appropriate to most cultures from the 6th century up to the 13th century and can even be dated further back as they are based on Roman helmet designs. In SCA terms, they are a very competitive helmet style that offers excellent protection, appearance, visibility and breathability.
You will be coached on how to make your own custom 12g Stainless Steel helmet. If you wish to use mild steel instead of stainless, that’s fine but HRM Hrogn won’t help you use anything less than 12g material. Should you wish to stay after the hour and keep working on your helmet completing the steps explained, the workspace will be available to you. You will be doing the measuring, cutting and hammering, and depending on your construction speed, it’s entirely possible that you could walk away with a completed helmet. If you don’t and still have work to do, HRM Hrogn will continue to coach you to completion after the event through electronic means or in person at events until you’re finished.
Course cost is C$150 and HRM Hrogn will provide all the materials that you need to complete the helmet. Very little surplus over costs is expected but if there is any, it’ll be donated to the Quad Site Castle Rebuild. Any shortfall will be covered by HRM Hrogn.
PLEASE REGISTER WITH HRM HROGN DIRECTLY PRIOR TO THE EVENT via the link below
location at the Castle. Cost $150; maximum 5 participants; taught by HRM Hrogn

SCA 201 (16:00)
You’ve been around for a while – maybe a few months or a year or two. You’ve got some garb, you’ve got a name, you’ve tried out some activities, and now you want to take your game to the next level. How do I develop my persona or improve my garb and armour? Who are the officers? What positions are needed in my local area and how do I get started in helping out? It seems like we need volunteers at every event – what are some of the different shifts people are posting about? What is largesse and why do we always need more? I have this skillset, how could I use that to improve my experience and the experience of those around me? Join Sicillia for an info session and conversation about different ways to transition from a nervous newcomer to a contributing citizen
