Populace Shoot and Prize Tournament – Target Archery (8:00 – 10:00)
Hosted and sponsored by Houjou Ayame; location at the Archery field
Come test your skill in Bow & Arrow at a fun populace shoot.
The Houjou Dojo is hosting the Populace Shoot at Quad War.
Now I know that I normally have some crazy themed targets but I’ve been wanting to run a Royal Round at an event for the longest time, so that’s what I’m going to do.
A Royal Round is 6 arrows at 20, 30, 40 yards & a 20 yard timed end. Don’t worry if you have never shot a Royal Round before myself and others will happily teach you. Come check it out! Loaner gear available & prizes will be awarded.
Hammered Kneadle Target Prize Triathlon (10:00 – 12:00 )
Hosted and sponsored by the Hammered Kneadle; location at the Archery field
The HK waffles back and forth between triathlon and pentathlon – this year it’s the triathlon! The HK would like to encourage more participants in the thrown weapons discipline. This event will include cumulative scores from three of the Thrown Weapons categories – Axe, Knife and Spear (no atl-atls). In order to provide an even balance of scores between the disciplines, this tourney will not follow standard Avacal target size and scoring. Details will be explained at the competition.
“The Hammered Kneadle would like to invite you out to participate in a prize tournament while you test your skills in Target. What can be more rousing than throwing a sharp hunk of metal at an object? There will be a limit on the number of participants due to time, so sign up early and don’t miss out. Sign up at the Hammered Kneadle on Merchants’ Row or during weapons inspection prior to the tournament.”
It is highly encouraged that participants in the tournament have some prior experience and familiarity with Thrown Weapons. Schedule and time permitting there will be warm up time permitted.
Personal thrown weapons are encouraged to be used by participants in the tourney. However, for those that do not have a complete set, there will be loaner gear (crossbow/combat bolts, spear, axe, knives; no bow/arrows though) available for use for a small tithe (to pay for bent knives and broken axe handles).
Please ensure your thrown weapons meet the requirements set forth in the Avacal Book of Thrown Weapons

Delaroche Archery Buy-a-life Tournament (15:00-17:00)
Ran and sponsored by House Delaroche. location at the Archery Field
House Delaroche once again invites all to a Buy-a-Life Tournament as a Castle fundraiser
How does it work? There will be a tourney for each of armoured combat, fencing, and archery. In each tourney you can buy lives for $2 each. You lose a life each time you are defeated but you’re not out until you have no lives left. And even then, you can buy more lives to stay in.
Even better, your friends can buy lives for you. Be an anonymous benefactor and discreetly buy lives for someone. Have fun with it. We’ll accept cash or e-transfers. These tourneys will be run Sunday afternoon one after another so you can take part in as many as you like and are authorized for.
There will be prizes. Anyone can win! Bragging rights go to the last competitor standing. A draw will determine who gets the prize.
The archery range will remain open after this tournament until 17:30

Shrinking Disks: Society Seasonal Archery Challenge (13:00 – 15:00)
hosted by Avacal Deputy Scorekeeper Tonegawa no Keiran; location Archery field
The Society Seasonal Archery Challenge (SSAC) is a rotating standardized shoot that every archer SCA-wide can participate in to test their mettle against archers from other kingdoms. Participants who shoot in a SSAC event are rewarded with a spot on the Grand Archery Tournament (GAT) scoreboard for four years, where more than 1700 archers from all twenty kingdoms are represented. Avacal archers only make up 1% of the participants in the GAT and the quickest, most exciting way to change that is to get our archers shooting in seasonal challenges!
The current SSAC is called Shrinking Disc and runs from June 1 to August 31st. Participants start at 15 yards, — six arrows, untimed — shooting at the ten rings of a standard 60cm Royal Round target. Each arrow anywhere in the ten rings gives an archer two points. If an archer hits the circle three or more times, they progress to the next end for scoring. Every end, the distance is increased by five yards and the target shrinks by one ring. Archers who fail to score with three arrows will gain no further points on future distances, though they are encouraged to keep shooting for practice. The challenge ends when the final scoring archer fails to land three arrows in the shrinking target.
Should time allow, we will run this event as many times as participants are willing. Archers may submit two SSAC scores a day.
The Shrinking Disc rules page is available here: https://scores-sca.org/public/scores_rules.php?R=25&Shoot=782

The Gauntlet: Arcarius Armoured Shoot (inspection 8:00; shoot 9:00 – 11:00)
Hosted and sponsored by Ellias Silver; location at the Castle
Do you have what it takes to survive The Gauntlet? This year at Quad War, I will once again be hosting the most unique and exciting tournament in the kingdom.
The Gauntlet is a combat archery tournament where participants sprint through an obstacle course in, around and through the castle in full armor all while shooting at targets and being shot at!
Combatants have to race against time as they run, aim, load, shoot, duck and dodge through the course. Sound exciting? Don’t worry there’s more!
In order to exit the course the Combat archer must face off against one of the top archers in the Kingdom in a running duel. Once crossing the finish line their time is adjusted depending on how many shots they hit, or were hit by.
Best time wins the prize.
Now I know you are asking, how do I enter this excitement packed adrenaline filled chaos?
Contestants must have full combat archery armor and weapons (Bow or Crossbow) as well as be authorized in combat archery. All armor and weapons must pass inspection and you must present your authorization card to the inspecting marshal.
Inspections start at 8 AM at the castle and close at 9 AM sharp.
At 9:01 we send our first runner through the Gauntlet!
Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come out and cheer for their favorite runner.
See you all at The Gauntlet.
Yours in Service,
Duke Sir Ellias
