A Newcomers’ Breakfast will be held beside Tyger’s Rest on Adeline Avenue (2nd row of Merchants’ Road).  We invite everyone who is attending their first Quad War to come and share breakfast with the leaders of our SCA community.  Our goal is to make all the newcomers feel welcome, and ensure that their Quad War is enjoyable and fulfilling.  Note that the eating, greeting, and meeting will continue until 10:00 but the food service may end before that so it is suggested you arrive earlier.  Food and dishes will be provided, but it is recommended that attendees bring chairs if possible.  The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage patties, coffee, and juice, and we will provide a gluten-free option.

Queen’s Tea with the Teddies (10:00)

Hosted by Astrid Arnsbjornsdottir and HRM’s retinue; location: At the Royal Pavilion

It’s a tea party, and the Teddies are invited!

All Teddies (and friends) who were created, entered, and donated in the Avacal Grand TUA Best Dressed Teddy Bear contest are codially invited to have tea with Her Royal Majesty at the Royal pavilion. This invitation is extended to not only the Teddies still in the Avacal Children’s Largess, but also those that may have been selected by a young gentle before Quad War/Avacal 10-year; (Teddy owners are welcome, too!).

But that’s not all….The TUA competition was so exciting, we wanted to try it again. We encourage you to show off your skills once again, or for the first time, to create a medieval garb for a Teddy (or friend) that you would like to donate to children’s largess! Such fun!!

AND EVEN BETTER….these new Teddies are invited to have tea with Her Royal Majesty as well!

All completed entries are asked to arrive at the Royal Pavilion by Sunday morning, between 9:00 – 9:30 in preparation to have tea with Her Royal Majesty and any members of the populace who wish to attend.

Prizes will be awarded and all entries will be donated to Avacal’s Children’s Largesse. Plus, there is probably going to be a photo op! Medieval paparazzi will be about!

Of course, those who are unable to complete an entry are still welcome to tea with Her Royal Majesty. Come enjoy the relaxed social!

Helga Ball Practice (13:00 prep; 14:00 commence)

Hosted by Astrid Arnsbjornsdottir at the Erics

Helga ball is an enjoyable game played at many Inter-Kingdom events. Come learn and play.  And if you’re not interested in playing, well come and watch! What would be more fun than watching a bunch of female contestants turn cabbage in to coleslaw on a “battle” field.

Teams will be set up prior to the event.

Cask & Castle Caravans (commences after court)

Hosted by The Quad Site Fundraising Team

Good Morning, Avacal! Over the years, the Quad War Castle has earned a place in the imagery and minds of our citizens as a landmark of your Principality and then your Kingdom. We have fought in its shadow, defended and attacked its doors, and some of us have even enjoyed sleeping in it. But over the years, like all of us, the castle has felt the burden of time wearing on it.

This is our 2nd year of raising funds to give our CASTLE A MAKEOVER AND BRING BACK THE GLORY IT DESERVES!!!

Here’s how it works. You donate $40 or more to the castle. That’s it. That’s all. Simple as that. You kick over cash to the castle. But wait, that’s not actually all. We’re running a Cask & Castle Caravan to show appreciation to all who support the castle rebuild. When you donate $40 or more to the castle rebuild, you’ll receive a wristband that shows you’re a supporter and that wristband will allow you access to one of the Caravans

On Sunday Night after evening court, we’re going to have 2 Caravans leaving the Court to tour local stops around the site.

The 1st Caravan will be the polite-est of our polite, finest of our fine, the most respectable and well mannered citizens who enjoy their tea with their pinky’s out and only use their inside voices.

The 2nd group will be the Kingdom’s scoundrels, the loud, the unsavory, the obnoxious, the people your peers warned you about, the thirsty, those who have lost their inside voices at the same event they lost their shame and dignity. So you just jump in with whichever group appeals more to you. The Fancy Tour goes first and the Rowdy Tour goes second.

But where are all these Stops around the Quad Site you ask?
Here are the stops for 2025:
1. The Main Street Menagerie (Iolar/Coryn/Skaadi)
2. The Dark Lord’s Lair (Lord Vader & fiends…we mean friends!)
3. The Embassy (Castle Rouge & friends)
4. The Ruffled Raven (Ruffled Raven household & friends)
5. The Boars (The Boars household)
6. The Grotto (Odin’s Bastards household)
7. Dwarf Hollow (Dwarf Hollow friends)

Each stop will have a food and drink offering, including non-alcoholic for those who don’t partake traveling with the Caravans that come by. Each Caravan will stay approximately 25 minutes, then travel onwards. Food will be appetizer-type offerings. (We’re not fighting world hunger and trying to feed the groups 5-6 full meals). And the drink offering should have a non-alcoholic option for those who don’t partake.

After the Caravans have passed through each stop, the final stop will be at Dwarf Hollow, where the Surly Duke is rumored to hang out. Any hosts with leftover food and drink are welcome to bring it to the fire and share with all who are there. This is intended to bring the entire populace together and enjoy a communal fire with songs and stories and laughing and general good times. So come on out and join in and either sing well or else sing loud, or ideally both, but if you have to pick one, go with loud.

Want to help? Contact one of the host groups above and volunteer your time or culinary skills.
Alternatively contact Hrogn (Dave Tarry) directly with any questions about this fundraiser

100% of the funds raised will go to the Castle Rebuild.

Cabbage? CABBAGE! 6 women/trans women/gender fluid people face off against 6 others to try to score points with a cabbage. Men/trans men/gender fluid people can be the goal posts. Goal posts may be bribed!

Yes, your garden-variety cabbage is apron/dress-tossed around the field for this ancient pastime. No rules except no hands on the cabbage so DO NOT dress in your best! You can register a team of 6 or join an open team.

Quotes from satisfied customers: “Helga Ball is very much like rugby, and soccer and wrestling. You know, the tackling from rugby, the kicking from soccer, the double-leg takedown from wrestling”. “You will surely be invited to Valhalla… but you’ll feel like you’ve been to Hel”.

Cost: it might cost you your apron, your clothes, or your dignity but no actual money required. Prize TBA. We promise it won’t be a cabbage.

Senior Marshall: there isn’t one; it’s a play at your own risk contact sport.
